South Crosby Student Government *NOTE: 2021/2022 Elections are on hold at this time*
At South Crosby, the staff believes the development of a student government presents a unique opportunity for young students to learn organization, leadership and teamwork skills. This wonderful group of individuals will be encouraged, under adult supervision, to come up with activity ideas, vote on the ones worthy of implementing, plan many or all aspects of school wide activities and even then run the activities. They may be called upon to host visitors in the building, give tours of the school to community members or families new to the area, plan special events like Spirit Days or dances and even decide on ways to give back to our local community. All activities planned and carried out by the South Crosby student government are approved and assisted by the supervising teachers and principal.
At South Crosby school, students are encouraged early in the year to become involved in the student government. During September, individual students begin to campaign for votes to be the school mayor and the halls become adorned with posters advertising diverse electees.
The entire school, including staff and students, attend a “Mayor Elect Assembly” where students from grade 5 and 6 run for the position of mayor and are asked to deliver a short speech to the student body. During these speeches, candidates outline appropriate reasons for why their peers and teachers should elect them and share their personal aspirations and ideas to help make South Crosby the best possible place to be. Many candidates speak about their desires to bring about change, assist in planning new events and activities or share examples of how they are outgoing and sociable. If elected, every candidate is expected to represent the student voice with respect and integrity, both within the school walls and outside the Elgin community.
2019/2020 Elected positions: Mayor - Anneke Lake & Deputy Mayor - Rory Shanks
All of the other candidates who run for the position of Mayor during the campaign, complete the student government and are given many opportunities throughout the school year to represent their peers and voice their opinion.
We are pleased to present South Crosby's Student Government for 2019/2020!

Through our Student Government initiative, we are cultivating leaders of tomorrow!
At South Crosby, teachers recognize and nurture students’ unique gifts and provide the student body with an opportunity to voice their questions, concerns, ideas, and more; thus making the school environment more student-focused.
